Betsy Palmer, a famous actress who became prominent for her murderer role in Friday the 13th has died aged 88 in a hospice care in Connecticut, the media have reported. She died of natural causes on Friday, said her manager Brad Lemack.
She was known for a long acting career spanning over 50 years. She became appearing on the big screen in the 1950s, when she played a number of notable roles. She was recognized as an interesting letter turner on “Wheel of Fortune” and as a panelist on “I’ve Got a Secret” TV game show which aired during prime time. When she portrayed a mother-turned-murdered on the 1980 horror classic “Friday the 13th”, she attracted a whole new generation of followers, said her manager. Palmer said that she took the role of Mrs. Voorhees only because she thought nobody would go and see the movie. She also said that the money attracted her and that she was in need of a new car at the time. The legend says that her car broke down in Connecticut the day before she was called to participate in the movie.
She needed USD 10,000 for a new vehicle, and she was paid exactly that sum for the movie.
